Greenhous Group Support The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

Greenhous Group supports patient care with vehicle donation to The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

Greenhous Group is proud to support The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust by providing a fully electric Nissan ARIYA to assist its Volunteer Driver Service, an initiative designed to improve patient experience.

Launched in summer 2025, the Volunteer Driver Service plays a vital role in helping patients. From ensuring individuals can return home safely and efficiently after their hospital stay to offering those receiving treatments on a regular basis, such as dialysis or other life-extending treatments, a means to get to and from the hospital safely and easily.

This service operates across both the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital, and offers an invaluable opportunity for those unable to make the journey home from hospital independently. The service supports patients who may otherwise face travel challenges, including individuals who are not eligible for patient transport, as well as those who might otherwise experience long waits for family or friends to collect them.

Volunteer drivers not only provide transport but also offer reassurance and practical support, helping patients with their belongings, transporting necessary medicines, and any essential items they need for a safe return home. To enable the service to operate effectively, volunteer drivers can either use their own vehicles and receive fuel expenses or make use of a vehicle provided by the Trust. Greenhous Group is delighted to contribute by supplying a Nissan ARIYA, ensuring volunteers have access to a modern, reliable and environmentally friendly option for their journeys.

The all-electric Nissan ARIYA offers a range of up to 330 miles on a single charge, allowing volunteers to complete multiple journeys throughout the day with minimal downtime. Its smooth, quiet drive will hopefully provide essential comfort for patients, many of whom may be recovering from treatment. Practicality was a key consideration in selecting the vehicle. Many patients using the service rely on walking aids or require additional equipment, making storage space essential. The Nissan ARIYA delivers with a generous boot capacity of up to 486 litres, expanding to 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded down. This flexibility ensures there is ample room for mobility aids, medical supplies, and personal belongings, supporting volunteers in delivering a seamless and stress-free journey for patients.

Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, said, “We are incredibly grateful to Greenhous for providing a vehicle for this important service. Their support will make a real difference to patients, helping them travel home in comfort and with the reassurance of a caring, reliable service. We would also like to thank our 18 volunteer drivers, whose dedication and compassion enable more than 250 patient journeys to take place every month.”

Ashley Passant, Managing Director of Greenhous Car & Van division said, “Supporting our local NHS Trust and the incredible volunteers who give their time to help patients is something we’re very proud to be part of. By loaning this vehicle for the next year, we hope to make a real difference to the volunteer driver service, ensuring people can continue to access vital appointments and support across the community. It’s important to us that we give back locally, and we’re delighted to provide volunteers with a modern, reliable and environmentally friendly vehicle to support the fantastic work they do every day.”

By partnering with our local NHS Trust on this initiative, Greenhous Group is proud to play a small but meaningful role in supporting patient care within the local community. The Volunteer Driver Service represents a compassionate and practical solution to a common challenge within healthcare, and Greenhous is honoured to contribute to its continued success.
